History and Personality: History
If you looked up the word nerd in the dictionary, you would most likely find a picture of Felicity Smoak. She takes the term nerd and takes it to a crazy awesome sexy level. Felicity is a very put together woman on the surface. She dressed to the nine's, and hair is not usually out of place (unless of course there is a building falling around her).
She is a bit socially awkward, which may or may the understatement of the century. It seems like she reserves her social faux pau's for ridiculously hot men, like Oliver Queen, Ray Palmer, or Barry Allen, or woman in positions of authority like Moira Queen. Her babble is the way she deals with nerves and highly stressful situations, and it more often than not has a sexual connotation. Most people that know the blonde well know how to redirect her with a look, or a roll of their eyes. Please don't let the babble fool you, however, she knows how to speak her mind when she needs to and is not afraid of standing up for what Felicity believes in, even if it is the mighty Moira Queen, especially if Felicity knows she is right.
Felicity is excellent at using her nervous, awkward little habit to calm the team down when tensions rise too high. She thought that the ground should swallow her up, but it focuses the team and shows them that she is an asset, far greater than she believes.
In fact, she is Team Arrow's real trump card. She comes off as unassuming, weak and useable, but she is the exact opposite. She is the ace in the hole. The babbling, flighty way she has of talking allows people to let their guards down and lets her get close enough to take you down. A prime example is Slade Wilson, who underestimated her resourcefulness. She let him get close enough to her so she could give him the cure allowing Oliver to level the playing field.
She has got more going for her than just her good looks and brains. She is the heart of Team Arrow, and it's moral compass. It is a role that Felicity takes very seriously. She is kind, compassionate, and has a huge heart. She is full of trust but doesn't give it away blindly. She is strong enough to trust you but also go toe to toe with you if she needs to. Oliver in some way must have been able to tell that, because he let her in on his secret, going to Felicity when he got shot. Felicity was the missing ingredient in Team Arrow, bring her empathic nature and quick wits to the team filling in their missing puzzle piece.
Felicity isn't some naive girl either; she knows all about the harsh realities of life. Despite that, however, she has still kept her gentle nature, which is why she was hesitant to join team arrow to begin with. She did not approve of the Hood's harsher methods of interrogation. She has said on more than one occasion that she doesn't like sharp pointy things, and they shouldn't be stuck in people just because the answers given weren't the expected ones.
She handles herself well in high-risk situations. She is adept at going undercover, having infiltrated a casino, Merlyn Global as a delivery girl, and she drew out the Dollmaker. That wasn't one of her most ingenious plans since she got hurt, but she got the job done. Her method of warfare is more mental than physical; she only can handle about five sit-ups in the morning honestly.
She is the genius of the group, make no mistake about that. She is ambitious and a tough worker. She is not one to let something go until she figures out what makes it tick so to speak, determined to do whatever she sets her mind to. She does not want to end up like her mother, so that is always in the back of her mind pushing her forward.
Felicity is patient, indulgent and willing to let things ride out, especially when it comes to Oliver Queen. She doesn't question anything that he asks of her, trusting him to do the right thing. That is a strength, but also a weakness when it comes to her relationship with Oliver. That trust in Oliver is what eventually allows him to break her heart into a million pieces.
Felicity is a strong woman, never one to back down, which is why she jumped at the change to do super secret vigilante work in the first place. She loves a good mystery and Oliver a way for her to prove she could be more than an IT girl on the 15th floor. She grew in her time working with team Arrow and was able to give herself some perspective, and stand up to Oliver leading to their broken engagement.
She may be highly intelligent, and self-motivated, but Felicity also harbors insecurities and an inferiority complex, especially when it comes to Laurel and Sara Lance. Sara could do things that Felicity could only dream about, or have nightmares about depending on your point of view. When she came into the fold, Felicity began to feel insignificant, and it lead her to be somewhat daring, and brave. She saved a life, by throwing her body into the line of fire. She was proud that she got shot. She is and will always be her toughest critic, and she is very hard on herself when she fails at something.

Third Person/Prose: Felicity Smoak was more at home behind her computers then she was anywhere else in the world. It didn’t matter if was her tablet at home or in the arrow cave behind a wall of monitors that she lovingly restored. Felicity was much better at dealing with binary code than human emotion it seemed. It wasn’t that she was particularly bad at dealing with her emotions, unlike two certain men that she had a habit of dealing with on a regular basis.
Felicity was a smart woman, but working with Oliver and the team had hardened her to a certain degree. She supposed that she should feel grateful that she still felt horrible guilt when bad things happened to good people. She could hold onto that, but it totally sucked that she couldn’t even look Rory in the eye for months and when she did the first thing out of her mouth as that she had killed his family. Way to go genius! It wasn’t like he didn’t have enough on his plate dealing with Oliver.
She rubbed a hand down her face. She had weathered a broken heart, which she honestly thought that she would not come back from. Oliver had been her whole world, but getting shot had taught her that she was a strong enough woman in her own right. She chose to stay because it was the right thing to do, and his cause, their cause, was still something that she believed in, but suddenly that all changed. She had no warning at all when she felt her entire world spin off its axis.
She was kneeling beside her now dead boyfriend wondering two things… well more than that but the two that were most prevalent were did she have a hand in this by not being honest? The second thing was that she knew that she needed a change and she needed it fast.
She looked up, standing slowly as the man cleared his throat. She stepped towards him and had hope that things might be okay.
